The latest addition to the family

This little lantern is made of the seed pods from the plant Lunaria annua, commonly known as honesty, money plant or silver dollar. The fins are Zea mays, commonly known as corn husks. Tonight there was a lantern parade for the Winter Solstice and all my lanterns went out to celebrate.

Just to let you know I'm still alive...

...here is a picture of my studio and another one of Tom Hanks. The two things are unrelated.
I didn't even draw Mr Hanks in my studio, I drew it while watching television.

Happy Owl Bowl that I Made!

My friend took me to a pottery painting studio and I made this owl bowl for my morning cereal.

Making of the Snow Queen

First I made a cardboard base, then added a layer of clay. Paper mache was applied over the clay base (which was covered in plastic wrap) to make a 'mask'. The mask was pulled off the clay and used as the final head piece, which needs to be as light as possible. My paper mache dried all funny;it buckled a bit. Hopefully I'll work out some of the technical glitches for the next one.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Halloween

I made a giant carnival puppet costume for the Parade of Lost Souls this year. This was my first attempt at something on this scale. The head is a bit bumpy but I was pretty proud of it. You can't tell from the pictures, but she's 8 feet tall. My head is behind the lace. As one observer so elegantly put it, "Her boobs are talking!"

Sketching- Oregon Zoo in Portland

Had a great day at the zoo; I was there five hours and I would have stayed longer if my back hadn't hurt so much! I was also pretty upset after learning about all the endangered species at the zoo---pretty much EVERY ANIMAL THERE!
These are just a selection- more on the flickr page.

Screenprinting Fun!

Bunny on tee should have been perhaps an inch or two more to the left.
Hooked on screenprinting, oh yes!

IF- 'Stargazing

Damnit, Jim! I'm a doctor, not an astronomer!

So I thought about stars, about how humans have gazed upon them for millenia, about how unfathomably far away they are, about the ends of the universe....and then I drew this.

Life Drawing

"I try to go once a week", she says. LIES! DAMNED LIES! After a lapse of six weeks, I dragged myself to class yesterday. It was The Very Beautiful Model again. Maybe I'll start to be more experimental next week.

'B' is for Bruce!

Okay Susan, I still don't understand the obsession but I'll give you this- The man's ridiculously easy to draw! He's a walking caricature.

Summer Vacation To-Dos

Working hard, or hardly working?
Hey, it's summer, and things are about to get busy again real soon.
